Homework
Standards of Learning (SOLs) and Physics by Inquiry, Part I
Due Tuesday, October 29, 2002
This is another HW assignment pertaining to the
state of Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL). You previously did HW where
you found 7 SOLs that we have covered in the X.1 grouping.
Your assignment:
Find another 7 SOLs (as described in the previous
SOL HW assignment). Again, for
each bullet item you choose, write a brief description of the activity we
did and why the activity matches the SOL you chose. Each
bullet item description need not be more than a few sentences. For this
assignment the SOL does not have to be a X.1 bullet item.
Again choose from grades K-6.
Remember.....
One of the goals
of this course is to address physical science topics from the Virginia Standards
of Learning (SOLs) for public schools. The SOLs are meant to reflect
national standards of education and current understanding of the processes of
learning. This assignment pertains to some of these SOLs.
You will need to go to the following web
site to view the VA science SOLs.
The SOLs are labeled by a number/letter then a number (ex. 4.1). The first
letter/number is the grade designation, the second is the specific SOL
number. For each grade, there is a X.1 SOL that represents
"overarching themes" across the sciences. These
"overarching themes" will be covered in each of the 3 inquiry courses
currently being offered at Sweet Briar. These themes are essentially SOLs
that deal with science as a process. As you know by now, this process is
one of the most important parts of our course.
