Physics 104 Test 3 Review.
Test date: Friday April 21 (during class) or Monday April 24 (between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm, but not during my class)
help session: Thursday April 20  @ 7:30 PM Guion rm. 12

You will be given the following equations.

Bring questions for the review session.   I am not bringing any prepared lecture, it is your responsibility to ask questions.

This test will be given under the rules of the Honor Code.  Bring a calculator, but using equations programmed into your calculator IS NOT ALLOWED.

The test will most likely consist of three or four problems (like those on the homework) with several parts and several conceptual multiple choice questions.  There may also be a few shorter questions/problems.

You will be given 55 minutes to complete the test.  Remember to do the problems you know how to do first and do the more difficult problems later.  Budget your time wisely, if you get stuck for too long, move on.

Generally speaking you should feel comfortable with the following (this is not an exhaustive list.....):
Important topics
Chapter 28 Circuits
Using Kirchoff's junciton and loop rules. (for single and multiloop circuits)
Adding resistance in series and parallel
Charging and discharging capacitors
Chapter 29 Magnetic Fields
Force law for magnetism, be able to use right hand rule
Magnetic field lines
Hall effect
Motion of charged particles in magnetic fields
Force on current-carrying wire
Torque on current loop
Chapter 30 Magnetic Fields Due to Currents
Biot-Savart law
Amperes law, use it to find B due to long wire (inside and out), solenoids and toroids   (note i did not give you special case equations for these!)

NOTE:  I have not added many equations!  Make sure you can use the equations I have given you!

Remember, I tend to not have "plus and chug" test questions.

How should you study?

Know how to do all of the assigned homework problems and understand all the conceptual questions from class (those put on the overhead and those I asked you to solve otherwise).  Read the chapters and understand how to do the examples in the text.  If you have not done well on the homework you need to fully understand your old hw to do well on the test.   If you find the homework easy, you should do well on the test.
