Determining the Coefficient of Static Friction
Physics 121
Dr. Hank Yochum
Fall 2000
Goal:
Find the coefficient of static friction accurately for three different materials.
Procedure and Apparatus:
For this lab you must decide how to measure the coefficient of static friction.
You MUST explain/derive the equations you use to find the coefficient.
The only tool you can use is a ruler/meterstick.
You must turn in your data, an explanation/derivation of any equations you used, and a
conclusion stating what you found.
Prelab:
Describe how you are going to determine the coefficient of static friction.
