Single Slit Diffraction

Goal:
Your goal is to experimentally determine how laser light propogates through a "skinny" single slit.  This will be accomplished by studying the diffraction pattern of the laser light as it passes throught the slit.  From the diffraction pattern for several slits, you will determine the wavelength of the laser.

Procedure and Apparatus:
No procedure is given for this lab, YOU are to determine what procedure to follow.  The equipment you will have available:
    Diode Laser
    Single slit
    optical bench
    eyes

Your Lab Report:
Write a conventional lab report as we have been doing.  REMEMBER THE COMMENTS I HAVE BEEN PUTTING ON YOUR REPORTS!  Lets turn each turn in beautiful labs!

Prelab:
Read the section of your Halliday/Resnick/Walker that pertains to single slit diffraction.
